Day & Overnight Trails

Trails follow a circular route, starting at Diepkloof. Follow the hiking maps and view the list of trees, fauna and birds that may be seen on the reserve. Remnants of a settlement built during the late Iron Age by the Kgatla and Bafokeng Sotho speaking people can be seen on the Cheetah Trail.

Tourist & Cycling Route

This is a circular , one way, tarred route of approximately 60km long. It includes a secluded picnic site at Holhoek which marks the mid-point of the route.

Join the events planned by Friends Of Suikerbosrand. Keep an eye on the monthly calendar for exciting events such as stargazing, invader plant eradication and medicinal garden replanting.

Museum & Medicinal Garden

The Diepkloof Farm Museum is a live and functional representation of a typical 19th century South African farm, situated on the original site in quiet picturesque surroundings. The Medicinal Garden, maintained by The Friends Of Suikerbosrand, serves as an educational resource to various South African medicinal plant species.

Nearby Places Of Interest

  • The Marievale Bird Sanctuary is situated within the wetland area of the Blesbokspruit Ramsar site, a wetland of international importance. They offer self-catering accommodation as well as conference facilities
  • The Alice Glöckner Nature Reserve is home to the rare and threatened Heidelberg Copper Butterfly (Chrysoritis aureus). Guest House accommodation is available.
